6/9/05 "DIGIT NO DIGIT" exhibition in Bordeaux, France

I was in Bordeaux (France) from June 8th till 13th for a group exhibition "Digit-No-Digit" at AC/APA/CPP Galerie. Although the schedule was really hectic and didn't get much sleep while I was there I enjoyed so much throughout my stay in Bordeaux.

The theme of the exhibition is "Digit-No-Digit" which is named after the nature of the participating work's various media (DVD, Installation, painting etc) and three artists participated in this show, Tampopo from Toulouse, Kleman from Bordeaux and me from New York.

I arrived at Bordeaux airport in the afternoon of 8th and since the opening was very next day as soon as I put my bags down in the hotel I rushed to the gallery and started working. My main concern was stretching those two big paintings that I had shipped in advance. Since I decided to bring the stretchers with me from New York luckily rebuilding/stretching was very smooth. DVD installation was a bit harder as four plasma screens had to be installed directly to the wall.

Tampopo made three paintings, spray-painted ant mini-prints and a "Tampopo TV" video installation. Kleman made a few large paintings but also his main work was that he constructed a little room filled with white foam and paintings with a dvd video installation inside. He is also a really good dancer and he appears in his dvd video dancing and it was quite impressive too.

At the opening night there were a street performance and the laptop dj performance, and so many people showed up that the gallery was packed!

For this exhibition I am showing two large acrylic paintings, three magic marker paintings, one mix media painting and one DVD video installation. I'd never had a chance to show my both digital and non-digital work at once, so when the gallery told me that they were interested showing both together I was very excited about it.

Besides from the exhibition Tampopo and I performed together at "Plug" as part of the "Japan is not only sushi" event. (Unfortunately I don't have photos from the performance yet…) The line-up included Romanesque from Paris, ODD from berlin and Venus from Tokyo. We had been talking about doing either an exhibition or a DJ/VJ show together for quite some time, and it was great that both came true at Bordeaux this time.

One of the staffs from the gallery owns a boat and they planned a boat trip at my last day. We went to a sand-only island off the Arcachon Gulf. With oyster, wine and bread they brought we made such a nice picnic in the island.

Thanks again to Franck, Andreric, Eric for organizing the exhibition and having me there and made my trip wonderful and many thanks to all the staffs from the gallery.

*All the exhibition works (except my dvd work "Walk") are for sale and if you would like any further information please contact Franck from AC/APA/CPP Galerie.
